Certain music is so timeless that you can simply connect to it almost instantly - as soon as the notes hit your ears and the groove settle into your heart, you are immediately transported into a whole new dimension - a sonic world created by the artists, or better yet, channeled by the artists through the filter of their unique musicianship.
Christine Weir put together a phenomenal group of musicians in order to work on her 2nd solo album, titled “Weir Celts”. As the title of this release might suggest you, the music is heavily inspired by earthy Irish and Scottish folk influences, as Christine’s vocals shine through a constellation of blissfully arranged strings, rhythms and other instruments.
The band’s energetic modern attitude seamlessly blends in with the band’s unique feel and passion for retro aesthetic, making for a unique compromise between contemporary folk and timeless Celtic vibes. The album’s hilarious cover pokes fun at the famous Marilyn Monroe “skirt incident”…giving it an hilarious Celtic spin!
Christine and her band stand out for their authentic renditions of traditional classics, as well as inspired performances with a unique and vibrant twist. And that earns her a 5 star review from Celtic Radio!

Get Up Jack is a band with a truly magnetic approach to their sound. They are widely appreciated by audiences and critics alike for their unique blend of Irish folk.
The group features multi-instrumentalist John Haggerty, as well as seasoned performer and songwriter Mike DeAngelis, drummer Scott Apicelli, guitarist/banjoist Crick Diefendorf, bassist Tom Pirozzi and harmonics Doug Johnson.
Their performances are energetic, upbeat and dynamic, and they are able to engage their audience with their stomp-laden songs, fascinating melodies and timeless harmonies.
Overtime, their earnest musical compositions and heartfelt performances earned them comparisons with masters of the crafts, including artists like The Dubliners, The Wolfe Tones or The Clancy Brothers, just to mention but a few. However, Get Up Jack certainly set out to build their own way and follow their own path with their one-of-a-kind sound and vision.
Their most recent studio effort, “Alive & Well - Volume II", is a collection of songs that embody the band’s unique vision and sonic aesthetics. The album features 14 tracks that showcase a really broad dynamic range from this band. On songs such as “The Scotsman”, the band immediately fires up an energetic number with a tasteful arrangement and some thought-provoking lyrics that have a strong storytelling quality.
“Boys of The Old Brigade” expands on the energy and adds more to the table, with sing-alongs that are memorable and meant to include the audience in a really powerful experience. “Go Lassie Go” is certainly one of the most entertaining moments on the album, with its passionate groove and entertaining tempo.
What we particularly love about this band is that they are not only skilled entertainers: their music alternates moments of free inhibition and pure unadulterated energy, with other instances that are more introspective, intimate and emotions. On songs such as “I’ll tell me ma”, they also reveal a more understated and reflective side.

Rose Baldino and Brian Buchanan have been making music for many years, and they happened to cross paths about a decade ago, somewhere in the backstage of a theatre in rural Pennsylvania. Ever since then, they shared quite a few musical adventures, touring around the country, although they finally decided to collaborate in 2014.
Also busy with his band “Enter the Haggis”, Brian immediately struck up great stage chemistry with Rose, and moved to Philadelphia, where the pair started “House of Hamill. The young duo have over 25 years of collective experience as musicians and songwriters, and they both excel at a wide variety of instruments, from fiddle to classical violin and guitar. Their songs are always on the edge of traditional and innovation, as they clearly enjoy what they are playing and their performances are electrifying. The pair debuted earlier in 2016, with “Wide Awake”, an album chockfull of mesmerizing melodies that redefine what’s traditional, with personality and verve.
One of the most striking aspects about the songs on the album, and the performances of this talented pair of musicians, is definitely the rare ability to truly touch the audience with their enthusiasm and deep passion for the craft. With so much experience, Rose and Brian are true naturals, and they know what it takes to keep the audience engaged, whether on a stage or in the recording studio.
On songs such as “Heart Shaped Box” or “Daydream”, the duo explores some really uplifting melodies with some fun and heartfelt executions. Tracks such as “Guns Of The Magnificent Seven” and “Fierce Cottage” are absolutely electrifying with energy seeping through each note, even during the most mellow moments. The latter song is particularly striking for its tense, dark atmospheres, combined with the uplifting rhythm section and the masterfully executed fiddle leads and rhythm guitar arrangement.
House of Hamill channels the diverse background and wealth of talented skills of both musicians involved within this project. They achieve a truly interesting blend of folk, which is rather separated from the pair’s other projects and bands, but yet it still retains that common denominator: passion, heart and feeling behind everything they do.
5 stars from Celtic Radio for this Celt-Folk Dream Team!
